Very poignant and beautiful. Hope to see you in Oxford soon for the ballades!
PS any likelihood of you playing Le Festin at the final concert of the series?
Autumn leaves...
I had to learn this by heart back in school in Germany❤ Wonderful! Exactly as it should be. Most Germans know this important song by heart.
what is the opening piece called?
He was also a skilled amateur geologist and good at Organic Chemistry and loved working with Dyes and developed some of his own dyes.
😂😂😂😂😂
Guess we know who was watching Chico Marx movies. Or maybe the other way around.
First of all Horowitz is not singing. I'm old enough to have watched this live on TV. Apparently somebody called John Stafford Smith put new lyrics to to America's national anthem. I would have thought Jack Gibbons would have known this.
You’re absolutely right. Horowitz is NOT singing! But these are not “new” lyrics, they are the original lyrics, written by Ralph Tomlinson no later than 1773. John Stafford Smith composed the music, also no later than 1773, and the song was entitled “The Anacreontic Song” and was the official song of the Anacreontic Society, an 18th-century London club for amateur musicians. 41 years later, in September 1814, John Stafford Smith’s melody from “The Anacreontic Song” was combined with Francis Scott Key’s poem “Defence of Fort M'Henry" by Key’s brother-in-law Joseph Nicholson and this version soon became known as “The Star Spangled Banner”, which eventually, over 100 years later in March 1931, became the official national anthem of the United States.
@@JackGibbonsHQ Wow! What a history. The Chicken-and-Egg question of these lyrics has now been answered! Thanks so much!
This is just dumb. He's clearly not conducting this butchered solo arrangement with all the orchestra Parts cut out
La plus belle louange consacrée à Dieu est de Bach ,sans contestation possible!
What I like here is that Mr Salt actually does know that it’s not Rachmaninoff. He seems the most intelligent and likeable of the guardians, bar Grandpa Joe, despite of course being quite horrible to his likely very low paid workers
I do think this original version fits the psalm lyrics better than the newer version. Both versions are beautiful but this sounds more like an urgent yet solemn plea for mercy from God, which is fitting.
What a treat to hear this on Alkan's original Erarad! Just came across this today. It really sounds quite good. Where have I been all these years?
Stansfield from the professional sent me.

Although Prokofiev's piano playing (not to mention his compositional style) was considered radically innovative in its day, how curious it is to hear the rhythmic flexibility and odd mannerisms of late Romantic pianism featured in some of the excerpts. Also he cultivated a beautiful and well-proportioned sound which seems at odds with the harsher and more angular approach of many contemporary artists. I think it's very instructive to revisit the way he actually sounded, without trying to copy it.
I love how it sounds clear it’s just quiet and the surface noise is loud

I'll never forget the Vienna Philarmonica at the Municipal Theatro in Río de Janeiro playing This Music, under Maestro RAFAEL FRÜHBECK DE BURGOS Regency.
May we all remember the sacrifice of so many who suffered under the boot of intolerance. We said “Never again!” Help us to keep our promise.
Excelente 😊
Nice Fantasy, Jack. Kind of a Scriabin feel to it. You've got the sanitized version of Chopin's death mask, as Alan Walker revealed the real deal in his Chopin biography. That would probably be too grotesque for your studio. Interesting hearing the comments on Ernst's performances. I have an autographed copy of Albert Spaulding's autobiography I found in a second-hand shop. Really, my hat's off to anyone who can play Alkan's Op. 39 in one concert. Maybe some time you can tell how you paced yourself to do that. Playing Copland's Appalachian Spring while you're up there?
Wonderful!
🙏🏻
Hätte man ahnen können wo das hinführt hätte man doppelt gas gegeben , in Brüssel😅
Jack, it’s so so amazing!!! The best performance ever for this one.
Beautiful love the language and song so innocent
Chef-d'œuvre 🫡👍
What a lovely surprize coming across this beautiful song. Thankyou
I listen to this once every week. Three masters at work. Timeless.
Beautiful
I love this. Fascinating. Thank you so much.
One of the most adorable Gershwin songs.

Amazing !
Amazing Jack. I have been listening to your Alkan CD a lot over the last few days - some incredible pieces and performances. Do you still play Le Festin d’Esope? I bet it was hard getting everything back after your car accident. Hope to see you in Oxford soon!
My grandma, nee Richard, used to say, "Never forget your Welsh connection." And, I never have.
